       The mission of Iowa Wesleyan College is to prepare students to succeed in a changing global environment.  Iowa Wesleyan is a four year liberal arts college providing quality individualized learning experiences that combine the development of the intellect with adaptive life skills.  The college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church with which it shares a commitment to spiritual values, social justice and human welfare. 

       The Office of Extended Learning supports the mission of Iowa Wesleyan College as it provides access for adult learners; engagement between the College and Community; and empowerment of individuals through learning.

NOTES FOR SUMMER 2014 AND 2014-2015 FINANCIAL AID

May and August 2014 Graduates - If you know you will be graduating in May or August and have Stafford loans, it is a federal requirement to complete exit counseling online at www.studenloans.gov.  If you have any questions you may schedule an individual appointment with Financial Aid at 319.385.6242 or email pjennett@iwc.edu.  There will be a Stafford loan exit meeting held on May 2, 2014 in the Science Hall Auditorium at 2 pm.  Please complete the online counseling before attending on May 2nd

Summer 2014 - Summer Schedule is available!  Once you register, the Financial Aid Office will notify you if there is aid or loans available.  If you have not used your yearly eligibility of Pell grant or Stafford loans you may be eligible for some financial aid for summer.  Stafford and Alternative loans are only available if you are enrolled in 6 credits or more.  Summer classes cost $420 per credit hour.  Add $25 per credit hour for any online course, and $20 per credit hour for student servicing fees. 

2014 – 2015 - If you haven’t filed your FAFSA please do so soon, you may do so online at www.fafsa.gov.  If you are eligible for the Iowa Tuition Grant, your FAFSA must be submitted by July 1, 2014.  If you completed one before you filed your tax return, don’t forget to log into FAFSA.gov àMake FAFSA corrections - Update your Financial Information.  If you are given the option to use the IRS Data Retrieval, please do so.

2014-2015 EXTENDED LEARNING CLASS SCHEDULE COMING!

       Please be aware that the 2014-2015ExL Schedule of classes (online and face-to-face) will be mailed and posted online during the last week of June or first week of July.  If you wish to receive a mailed copy of the schedule, please contact the ExL Office at 319.385.6245 or exl@iwc.edu and be sure that you are on our mailing list.

       The online schedule will be found with all of our ExL class schedules for the year at www.iwc.edu/exl.  Simply find and click on the “Schedule” photo-button to download your very own printable PDF.  Fall class registration will officially begin upon the posting of the schedule. 

2014 COMMENCEMENT WEEKEND

       Graduating seniors (December 2013, May 2014, and pending August 2014):  Participation is required at the following times unless specifically excused by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Richard C. McCallum:

                                   2pm       Graduating Students Financial Aid Exit Meeting Science Hall Auditorium
                                   3pm       Commencement Rehearsal, line-up/Rehearsal at P.E.O. Building
                                   4pm       ExL Student Graduation Reception (Howe Student Activity Center)
                                   7:30pm  Nurse Pinning Ceremony - Chapel Auditorium
 
Saturday, May 3  10am     Full academic attire; line-up in front of Chapel Auditorium
                                  10:30am Baccalaureate Service in Chapel Auditorium

       Remember to bring your completed Graduating Senior Survey/Career-Alumni Information form with you to rehearsal Friday, May 2.  The Bookstore will be open 8:30am - 4:30pm on Friday, May 2 and again 9am - 1pm on Saturday May 3.  Your balance must be zero to receive your diploma.  Safety/Survival requirement must be fulfilled and documented in the Registrar’s Office in order for you to graduate.  If you have any questions, please call the Extended Learning Office at 319.385.6245.

       We hope all graduates who have been Extended Learning students will attend the Extended Learning Reception our office is hosting in your honor following Friday’s Commencement Rehearsal.  This will be held from 4 - 4:30pm in the Conference area in the Howe Student Activity Center on Friday, May2. 

COMMENCEMENT AND SUMMER ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE BOOKSTORE

       Commencement caps and gowns should be picked up at the IWC Bookstore, watch for an email on your IWC address when they arrive.  Bookstore hours are 8:30am - 4pm Monday through Friday.  Afternoon hours may vary so please call ahead at 319.385.6478.  The bookstore will be open commencement day, Saturday, May 3rd from 9am - 1pm.

       The MBS book company will be here buying back books April 28 - May 6 from 8:30am - 12 pm.

       Bookstore summer hours will begin May 12th.  The bookstore will be open 9am - 1pm Monday through Friday.  Please contact the bookstore with any questions/concerns at 319.385.6478 or iwcbookstore@iwc.edu

SUMMER 2014 ONLINE CONSORTIUM OF INDEPENDENT COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (OCICU)
COURSE DATES – REGISTRATION DEADLINES

       Reminder: Summer OCICU courses are offered two times during the summer and begin and end on the following dates: May 5 to June 29; June 30 to August 24.  Registration deadlines for those courses are April 21 and June 16, respectively.  PLEASE NOTE:  Because these courses do not follow the published IWC Summer Term dates, they may not be covered by Federal/State Financial Aid.

 
TO ACCESS FINAL GRADES, CHECK ON FINANCIAL AID OR REVIEW BILLING ISSUES,
YOU MUST HAVE AN IWC EMAIL ACCOUNT
TO ENROLL IN ONLINE COURSES, YOU MUST HAVE AN IWC EMAIL ACCOUNT

       You may obtain your username and password, by simply finding us on the IWC website at www.iwc.edu/exl and from the left-column menu, click on “Get Username and Password” and follow the instructions.

       Once you have your username and password, you can find your final course grades (when they have been posted) by accessing the IWC Student Portal.  On the IWC homepage at the top is a Student Portal Login button that you will click.  Fill in your username and password and click the academic term you wish to view. 

       Please check your IWC email account at least once a week, as there may be important announcements from the Extended Learning Office, faculty, IWC Business Office or Financial Aid that pertain to you.

 INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING ONLINE COURSES

COURSE SECTION CODE: 55 = IWC MOODLE COURSES
1 – Go to the IWC homepage:  www.iwc.edu
2 – Click the “Quick Links” button (upper right corner)
3 – Find and click on the “Online Classes” icon, found at the left of the drop-down menu.
4 – Click the “Class Access” button (upper right section)
5 – Login using your IWC email (without the @iwc.edu) and your IWC password
6 – If you haven’t taken a Moodle course before, please click on the “Getting Started” button and complete the brief tutorial
7 – Click the course you are registered for.
 
COURSE SECTION CODE: 44 = OCICU COURSES
1 – Go to www.ocicu.org
2 – Click “Student Course Access” (left column)
3 – Scroll down and select Iowa Wesleyan College and click “GO”
4 – Find and click the course you are enrolled in (OCICU#/IWC# ~ Example:  ACC201/ACTG210)
5 – Click “Access this Course” and follow instructions from there.
You MUST have your OCICU Username and Password in order to log in.  If it is your first OCICU course, your username and password will be emailed to you shortly after you are registered for the course.

 USING THE VIRTUAL TEXTBOOK STORE
SUMMER TEXTBOOKS – Face-to-Face, IWC-Online, OCICU

       You now have 24/7 access to the IWC Bookstore when purchasing textbooks.  That said, DON’T WAIT! Come to www.iwc.edu and click on the “Quick Links” button in the top right corner.  A menu will appear above, where you select “Bookstore” and follow the instructions.  Here are a couple of hints: 1) Be sure you select “Summer” for your term, and 2) check the “Extended Learning” box for your classes. 

SPRING TEXTBOOK BUYBACK DATES

       You’ve bought your books and studied hard all semester, but you have no desire to keep your textbooks after class has ended.  You could use them as a doorstop … or you could sell them back online anytime.  Log into the bookstore (see above), click on Buy your Books and in the window that opens, click on Sell Your Books.  A return shipping label is available for printing.  If you purchased a book with a guaranteed buyback you will need to sell it back online in order to receive that guaranteed dollar amount.  If you have any questions please call the bookstore at 319.385.6478 or iwcbookstore@iwc.edu.  As always you are welcome to bring them to the bookstore.  The Iowa Wesleyan Bookstore will hold spring buyback April 28 - May 6 from 8:30m to 12pm.
