Kongable Wins Prestigious Award

Lisa Garlock Kongable ’86, was honored with the 2013 Schroder Award of Clinical Excellence by the Iowa Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association in April. The award is given annually to a nurse who has demonstrated outstanding clinical leadership in the field of psychiatric-mental health nursing.

Kongable is an associate professor of nursing at Iowa Wesleyan College with more than 18 years of experience as a nurse educator. She is also a psychiatric-mental health clinical nurse specialist and has been employed as an ARNP at the Mount Pleasant Optimae Mental Health Center for 13 years. She continues to work part-time as a psychiatric staff nurse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she has been employed for the past 27 years.

Kongable served as president of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Iowa chapter, during 2011-2012 and continues as an active board member of the organization.
