Viterbo ends IWC volleyball season with sweep in MCC quarterfinals

LA CROSSE, WIS. – Iowa Wesleyan College saw its volleyball season end quickly Saturday night with a three-set loss to Viterbo (Wis.) University in the quarterfinals of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The #3 seed V-Hawks defeated the sixth-seeded Tigers 25-19, 25-18 and 25-15, making much quicker work of IWC than in the regular season match between the teams ten days earlier, when the teams went five long sets. This time Viterbo was in control from the start and advances to a semifinal match against second-seeded Grand View University on Wednesday.

The V-Hawks (30-10 overall) posted a hitting percentage of .270 with 43 kills to just 16 hitting errors. The Tigers meanwhile had 30 kills with 22 errors in 98 attempts for a .082 attack percentage.

Megan McVey (So.-Fort Worth, Texas) led Wesleyan with 10 kills while Kendra Zimmerman (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis.) had 25 assists. Katie Leidl (Sr.-Esterhazy, Saskatchewan) led the team with 14 digs and finished her career with 1,892 digs, number one all-time at IWC. The match was the final collegiate match for Leidl and Brittany Richardson (Sr.-Benton, Ill.).

The Tigers finish the season with a 16-14 record, the team’s best mark since a 22-13 mark in 2005 that included MCC regular season and tournament titles and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
