St. Ambrose airs it out, shuts out Tigers in finale

DAVENPORT – St. Ambrose University passed for 458 yards and Iowa Wesleyan College ended its season with a 42-0 loss to the Fighting Bees Saturday afternoon at Brady Street Stadium.

The Tigers had just 117 yards of offense and never seriously threatened to score against the Bees. IWC finished its season with a 2-9 record, 1-6 in the Mid-States Football Association Midwest League.

Wesleyan also fell victim to a career day by SAU receiver Beau Foiles, who set a school record with 293 yards receiving. Foiles had 11 receptions and four touchdowns, with all four touchdowns coming in the first half as St. Ambrose took a 28-0 halftime lead.

Jaren Maybin (Sr.-Baltimore, Md.) led the Tiger offense with 65 yards rushing in his final career game. He finishes his career fourth on the all-time IWC rushing list with 1,860 yards. Kevin McConnell (Fr.-Kansas City, Mo.) completed 14 of 28 passes for 83 yards. Wes McGraw (Fr.-Argyle, Iowa) led the receiving corps with four receptions for 22 yards while Bayquon McDonald (Sr.-Bronx, N.Y.) added three catches for 30 yards in his final collegiate game.

Jean Louis (Fr.-Wilton Manors, Fla.) and Eduardo Garcia (Fr.-San Diego, Calif.) led the defense with five tackles each. Louis also registered one of the Tigers’ four sacks. Darious Watson (Jr.-Bellwood, Ill.) and Nate Washington (Fr.-Stone Mountain, Ga.) also had five tackles each. The IWC defense stuffed the run well, holding the Bees to 34 yards rushing on 23 carries. Brant Smothers (Fr.-Montezuma, Iowa) also punted well for the Tigers, landing three of his eight punts inside the 10-yard line.

Michael Hayward threw five touchdowns total for the Bees and passed for 368 yards, completing 16 of 29 passes. He completed touchdown passes of 16, 62, 80 and 42 yards to Foiles. St. Ambrose finished its season 6-4 overall, 4-3 in the MSFA Midwest.
