Zimmerman, McVey named to MCC all-conference volleyball team

MOUNT PLEASANT – A pair of Iowa Wesleyan College Tigers were named to the All-Midwest Collegiate Conference volleyball team, announced yesterday by the conference.

Junior setter Kendra Zimmerman (Green Bay, Wis.) was named First Team All-MCC, while sophomore outside hitter Megan McVey (Fort Worth, Texas) was named honorable mention all-conference. The two were part of a total of 23 athletes honored by the conference, including 14 first teamers and nine honorable mention honorees.

Zimmerman is the first IWC player to be named to the All-MCC First Team since Jenny Harris in 2006. She stepped up from honorable mention recognition last year as a sophomore, her first year after transferring to Wesleyan from St. Norbert College in Green Bay. This year she led the Tigers and finished second in the MCC in assists with 8.56 assists per game. A strong all-around player, Zimmerman also was active in a number of other categories, finishing third on the team in service aces (27), fourth in digs (235) and tied for fourth in blocks (41).

McVey emerged as one of the top hitters in the conference in her sophomore year, finishing third in the league in kills (3.14 kpg). Also an all-around player, she also was third on the team in digs (333) and blocks (53) and also led the team in serves received this year with 674. It was her first time receiving all-conference honors.

The two helped the Tigers finish 16-14 this season, including a 3-5 mark in the MCC. IWC finished with a winning record for the first time since 2005 and also posted its best finish in conference play in four years.
