FINDLAY, OHIO – Senior Jaren Maybin (Baltimore, Md.) leads seven Iowa Wesleyan College players who received Mid-States Football Association All-Midwest League recognition in awards announced Friday by the MSFA.
Maybin was named Second Team All-MSFA Midwest at the running back position, the lone Tiger to receive first or second team recognition from the vote of league coaches. Six other IWC players were named honorable mention all-league after the team finished 2-9 this season, 1-6 in league play.
Maybin received honors after a season in which he rushed for 680 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 16 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown, and in all accounted for seven of Wesleyan’s 12 touchdowns this year.
The senior’s season comes on the heels of a junior season when he was named First Team All-MSFA Midwest, and marked the conclusion of one of the most prolific careers for a Tiger running back. Maybin finished his career at IWC with 1,860 yards rushing, finishing fourth on the school’s all-time rushing list.
Those receiving honorable mention recognition from the league included offensive linemen Eric Davis (Fr.-Clemons, Iowa) and Tyler Stewart (So.-Merritt Island, Fla.), linebacker Scott Baldwin (Sr.-Penn Valley, Calif.) and defensive backs Darious Watson (Jr.-Bellwood, Ill.), Deevonte Browning (Fr.-Deland, Fla.) and Nate Washington (Fr.-Stone Mountain, Ga.).
Davis started all 11 games as a freshman at right tackle, one of nine Tigers to start every game this year. Stewart was another consistent performer on the offensive line, starting 10 of 11 games at center, missing one game due to injury.
Baldwin and Watson were the team’s two most consistent performers near the line of scrimmage. Watson led the team and ranked among the MSFA leaders in tackles with 85 tackles, despite playing the entire season with a number of injuries. He also had seven pass breakups, the second-highest total on the team. Baldwin finished fourth on the team in tackles despite missing the final two games due to injury. He also was second on the team with 7 ½ tackles for loss and also led the team with three forced fumbles.
Washington and Browning were two standouts in the secondary in their first years with the program. Washington assumed a starting position in the fourth game and finished third on the team with 53 tackles. He also led the team with eight passes broken up. Browning was the team’s third cornerback and played in all 11 games. He finished with 27 tackles and broke up five passes.
