Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2008

Iowa Wesleyan College honored three individuals with induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 4. The Awards Ceremony took place during the Homecoming Banquet.

Joining the Athletic Hall of Fame this year are Bub Krieger ‘41, Joe Thimm ‘77, and longtime Mt. Pleasant News Sports Editor Jim Rose.

Bub Krieger


Bub Krieger of Mt Union was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Krieger is a 1941 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan.

Krieger played basketball and football for the IWC Tigers from 1937-1941, lettering in both sports all four years. He earned All-Conference honors in both sports. Krieger was named to the Des Moines Register and Tribune All-Iowa Conference Football Team in 1940. After graduating with a degree in economics, Krieger was offered a contract to play football for the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League. He declined, settling into farm life, family and community activities in the Mt. Union area. He is now retired from farming.

Bub and his wife, Lugene, have 10 daughters, all of whom were on hand for the induction ceremony. A large number of other family members and friends were present, as well.





Joe Thimm


Joe Thimm of Lindstrom, Minnesota, was inducted into the Iowa Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Thimm is a 1977 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.

Thimm was a basketball standout at Iowa Wesleyan during his four years on the team. He was named All-District NAIA three years in a row and NAIA Basketball All American his senior year. Thimm holds the career high scoring record at IWC with 2,045 points and career record for field goals scored (834). He holds the individual season records in points scored (811), field goals scored (338) and rebounds (413). He is also the second leading rebounder (1,048 career) in Tiger basketball history.

Thimm served as a high school varsity basketball coach for 20 years. He is now an elementary principal for the Chisago Lakes School District in Lindstrom, Minnesota.

Thimm and his wife, Dawn, are both graduates of Iowa Wesleyan. A number of family members and friends attended the induction ceremony and Homecoming weekend events with Thimm.





Jim Rose


Longtime Mt. Pleasant News Sports Editor Jim Rose was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 4. The Awards Ceremony took place during the Homecoming Banquet.

Rose began working for the Mt. Pleasant News as sports editor in 1949. He served in that position for 42 y ears, semi-retiring in 1991. After retirement he continued to write his column, “Sports Through Rose Colored Glasses,” until his death in 2007. He received numerous writing awards, including the Iowa High School Athletic Association Media Award. His award was accepted by family members.
