MOUNT PLEASANT – Reggie Shipp (Jr.-Aurora, Ill.) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Shipp posted career highs in both scoring and rebounds on Saturday as the Tigers won their lone game last week, defeating Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College 76-69. The 6-1 junior guard scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Wesleyan avenged a loss to the Trojans earlier in the season.
Shipp shot 8-for-16 from the field against Hannibal-LaGrange, including 4 of 9 from three-point range. He also made 7 of 10 free throw attempts and added four assists and four steals in the game as IWC improved to 5-7 overall this year.
The Player of the Week award is the first in the career of Shipp, who is in his first season with the Tigers after transferring from conference rival St. Ambrose University. Shipp is leading Iowa Wesleyan in scoring at 16.2 points per game and assists with 3.3 assists per game and also is third on the team in rebounding with 4.6 boards per game. For the year he is shooting 46.5% from the field, 34.2% from three-point land and 53.6% from the foul line. Shipp has set career highs in scoring in his last two games and has led IWC in scoring in six of 13 games this year.
IWC has a break this week and will not take to the court again until next week when it faces Ashford University on Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in MCC play. The game will be on the road in Clinton and will be the Tigers’ final game of 2009.
