Iowa Wesleyan students achieve certification
Five Iowa Wesleyan College students have been certified as peer tutors by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). To qualify for certification students must complete required training and 25 actual hours of tutoring.
Certified recently were Alex Lin (China), Julia Nie (China), Emil Yazdani (Argentina), Anna Cheng (China) and David Hu (China).
The peer tutoring program is a service of the Academic Resource Center, located in the Iowa Wesleyan College Chadwick Library. The ARC provides a number of services to assist students in their learning and study skills.
“Our peer tutoring program is part of our commitment to the individual success of our students,” said Dr. Preston VanLoon, director of the Iowa Wesleyan College Academic Resource Center. “Certification is an excellent opportunity for our peer tutors.”
The peer tutoring program is available to all Iowa Wesleyan students at no cost. Student tutors are trained and assist other students in a wide variety of academic areas. Students at the College can become certified peer tutors at three levels: regular, advanced and master.
CRLA's certification program has been endorsed by the National Association for Developmental Education, Commission XVI of the American College Personnel Association, the American Council of Developmental Education Associations, Association for the Tutoring Professional and the National Tutoring Association.
