KANSAS CITY, MO. – Iowa Wesleyan College remained steady in the polls this week, holding at 14th in the country in the NAIA Division II women’s basketball top 25 coaches’ poll released Monday afternoon by the NAIA.
The Tigers received 258 points in the most recent poll, 19 more votes than last week when IWC also was ranked #14. Wesleyan is one of two MCC teams in the poll and is joined by Grand View University, which moved up to 19th this week.
Iowa Wesleyan won twice last week in Midwest Collegiate Conference play to stretch its winning streak to eight games and improve to 19-7 overall (12-1 MCC). The Tigers now have won 17 of their last 18 and have been ranked four straight weeks.
Grand View won twice last week to improve to 21-6 overall. The Vikings are 11-2 in the MCC, one game behind IWC in the conference standings with a meeting of the two teams coming up on Wednesday.
Iowa Wesleyan continues to hold three wins over teams currently in the top 25. The Tigers have defeated #19 Grand View, #22 Walsh (Ohio) University and #24 Marian (Ind.) University. IWC also has defeated Mount Mercy College, which received eight votes this week to come in at #35, and has two wins over St. Ambrose University, which received three votes this week.
The Tigers have a crucial game Wednesday at Grand View and with a win can wrap up at least a tie for the MCC regular season crown as well as the top seed in the MCC Tournament. Game time in Des Moines will be at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast online live at www.iwc.edu/onlinemedia.
