Historical presentation of Belle Babb Mansfield
Belle Babb Mansfield will come to life during an historical portrayal on Tuesday, March 9, at noon at Iowa Wesleyan College. The free program is part of the weekly series sponsored by the Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House at Iowa Wesleyan College.
Rosemary Harris, a retired teacher, researches and portrays historical figures. Mansfield is the latest addition to Harris’ repertoire of notable Iowa women.
Belle Babb Mansfield is recognized as the first woman admitted to the bar for the practice of law in the United States. She is an 1866 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College. There is a statue of Mansfield on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus.
The program is part of the annual Brown Bag Lecture Series sponsored by the Friends of the Harlan-Lincoln House. Each Tuesday at noon in March, programs of historical interest will be presented in the Chadwick Library International Room on the Iowa Wesleyan campus. The public is invited to bring a lunch and listen to guest speakers. There is no charge for the programs.
