Ginder is fifth IWC player to win MCC weekly women's basketball award

MOUNT PLEASANT - Jill Ginder (Jr.-Olney, Ill.) of Iowa Wesleyan College has been selected as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the conference.

Ginder won the award for her play in the MCC Tournament championship game last week, when she scored 16 points and added four steals in the Tigers' 62-54 win over Grand View University last Monday. The win clinched the MCC's automatic berth to the NAIA Division II National Tournament, where IWC begins play Thursday against Walsh (Ohio) University.

In winning the award, Ginder became the fifth member of Wesleyan's usual starting five this season to win the MCC Player of the Week award. Teammates Jessi Beachey (Jr.-Fisher, Ill.), Anna Jones (So.-Cornell, Ill.), Sheray Brown (Jr.-Detroit, Mich.) and Melanie McCreight (Jr.-Winfield, Iowa) all previously won the award.

For the season Ginder has started 29 games and is fourth on the team in scoring with 9.1 points per game. She also averages 3.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

The Tigers open play at the NAIA Division II National Championships on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. against Walsh. A live pay-per-view broadcast of the game is available to watch at www.watchnaia.com.
