Tigers continue spring break trip with two wins

TUCSON, ARIZ. – Mallory Crane (Jr.-Des Moines, Iowa) had a win and a save and Iowa Wesleyan College continued its spring break trip with a pair of wins on Thursday in the Tucson Invitational Games.

The Tigers defeated Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) University 12-11 to win their first game of the day, and then followed that up with a 10-2 win in six innings over Trinity International (Ill.) University. IWC moved to 3-5 on its season opening trip.

Wesleyan continued to hit the ball well as it has throughout the trip and won the opener against Stritch with a 12-run outburst. Ashley Mysliwiec (Fr.-Antioch, Ill.) had three hits and three runs batted in, Leigha Strong (Jr.-Muscatine, Iowa) and Kara Harris (Sr.-Berry, Ill.) both had a pair of hits and Haleigh Hempen (Sr.-Hamilton, Ill.) drove in a pair of runs. Trisha Stogdill (Sr.-Winfield, Iowa) got the win and Crane picked up the save in relief.

The Tigers pounded the ball again in the second game against TIU, this time piling up 16 hits. Mysliwiec hit her second home run of the season and Strong and Molly Niedert (Sr.-Sumner, Iowa) also added homers. Sarah Weber (Sr.-Danville, Iowa) also was 4-for-4, and Crane picked up the win on the mound.

IWC continued the trip with a pair of losses on Thursday. The Tigers lost to Madonna (Mich.) University 7-1 in their first game, then fell to Aquinas (Mich.) College 12-1. Strong had a solo home run, her second homer on the trip, and Kali Hills (So.-Fruitland, Iowa) also had an RBI single.
