GALESBURG, ILL. – Emery McGraw (Jr.-Loveland, Colo) shot an even-par round of 72 on Saturday to finish tied for second place individually and lead Iowa Wesleyan College to a fourth place finish in the Knox College Prairie Fire Classic at the muddy and windy Soangetaha Country Club.
McGraw finished with a two-day score of 151 (79-72), and his round of 72 was the best single 18-hole round of the entire tournament. As a team, Iowa Wesleyan finished in fourth place out of sixteen teams with a team score of 630 strokes. The Tigers shot a 325 to sit in sixth after the first day, but improved with a solid 305 on the second day. Monmouth (Ill.) College won the event with a 609 (307-302) beating second place Wheaton (Ill.) College by seven shots.
After McGraw was Mark Cleary (So.-London, England,) who finished tied for eighth place with a score of 153 (80-73). Cleary was two under at one point in his second day round, but bogeyed two of his last four holes, both coming on par 3’s. His round of 73 was still the second best 18-hole score of the tournament behind McGraw.
Nick Juskewycz (So.-Fairfield, Iowa) and Adam Moyers (Sr.-Burlington, Iowa) both finished with matching scores of 163 (83-80) to tie for 36th individually. Juskewycz was five over heading into his second to last hole Saturday, but put a ball in the water on the par 3 12th and took a triple bogey. Moyers scored five birdies on his first round but took a nine on the par 4 ninth which was his second to last hole.
Ryan Grun (Fr.-Kansas City, Mo.) rounded out the team results finishing with a score of 178 (89-89) to tie for 70th. As an individual, Zach Hale (Fr.-Indianola, Iowa) carded a 167 (84-83) to finish tied for 45th.
Sean McNamara of Monmouth won medalist honors with a two-day score of 150 (74-76), edging out McGraw, Dan Downey of Wheaton, and Dominic Rosati of Cornell College by just one stroke.
The Tigers next will compete in the Simpson Invitational on Tuesday at Indianola Country Club.
