KANSAS CITY, MO. – Iowa Wesleyan College shortstop Edder Morales (Sr.-Barquisimeto, Venezuela) has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Baseball Player of the Week, the NAIA announced on Tuesday.
Morales helped Iowa Wesleyan to a 3-0 week with a sweep of Grand View University last week in Midwest Collegiate Conference play. Morales smashed six home runs, including four in the 16-10 win on April 1. The total fell one shy of the NAIA single-game record of five roundtrippers. He finished the series 8-for-13 (.615) with 12 RBIs and eight runs scored.
In national statistics, Morales ranks third in total home runs (13) and hits per game (1.77). He also is sixth in slugging percentage (.887) and total bases (102). It is the second straight week an Iowa Wesleyan player has received national baseball honors, as pitcher Jansel (J.J.) Encarnacion was named NAIA National Baseball Pitcher of the Week a week earlier.
