ANKENY – The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s golf team concluded its 2009-10 season this weekend, finishing seventh at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships at Otter Creek Golf Course.
The Tigers finished with a two-day score of 816 strokes, placing seventh of seven teams in the field in the two-day tourney. St. Ambrose University won the conference title for the eighth straight year, finishing at 663 strokes to easily defeat second-place Viterbo (Wis.) University and the rest of the field.
IWC opened with a score of 404 on the tourney’s first day before finishing with a round of 412 on Sunday. Gabby Combs (Jr.-Macomb, Ill.) led the team with its best round of the tourney, shooting a 91 on Saturday. She finished with a score of 101 on Sunday and tied Melissa Petersen (Sr.-Wilton, Iowa) for the team’s top total score of 192. Petersen scored 95 on Saturday and followed up with a 97 on Sunday, and both tied for 31st individually.
Stevie Schrier (So.-Columbus Junction, Iowa) was next for the team with a score of 213 (110-103). Jordan Ruschill (Jr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) scored matching rounds of 111 to finish at 222, while Alyssa McClain (So.-Belleville, Ill.) finishing with a total of 227 (108-119).
