The Iowa Wesleyan College baseball team has found out its opponent for its first game in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament and will face St. Ambrose University Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.
The Fighting Bees, seeded sixth in the tourney, emerged from Friday's single elimination round to become the fourth team in the double elimination portion of the tourney. SAU defeated #5 seed Mount Mercy College 11-9 in its first game Friday and then knocked off fourth seed and defending tournament champion William Penn University 8-7 to advance to the double elimination bracket.
The #1 seed Tigers will face St. Ambrose at 3:30 p.m., or about 1/2 hour after the conclusion of Sunday's first game between #2 Grand View University and #3 Viterbo (Wis.) University, which begins at noon. The winners of both games will then face off at 7 p.m., with the winner of that game advancing to the championship round on Tuesday. If IWC loses to St. Ambrose, the Tigers then will face the loser of the Grand View-Viterbo game Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Live audio broadcasts of all of Iowa Wesleyan's MCC Tournament games will be available to listen to online at www.iwc.edu/onlinemedia.
