MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College golfers Mark Cleary (So.-London, England) and Melissa Petersen (Sr.-Wilton, Iowa) received honorable mention all-conference recognition when the Midwest Collegiate Conference released its postseason honors for golf on Monday.
Cleary received conference honors for the first time and Petersen was named to the honorable mention team for the second time. Cleary was among ten men’s golfers honored and Petersen was on a team of 11 women’s golfers honored by the conference.
Cleary led the Wesleyan men in both the fall and spring seasons in stroke average and posted six top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments this year. He averaged 77.2 strokes in the fall with a low round of 70, and improved in the spring with an average of 75.1 strokes and four top-10 placements.
Petersen was the most consistent player on the IWC women’s team and finished as the team’s lowest scorer over the course of the fall and spring seasons. She averaged 99.7 strokes per round in the fall and 98.8 in the spring and led the Tigers individually in eight of nine tourneys this year.
