MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College junior Leigha Strong (Muscatine, Iowa) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA All-Midwest Region team, which was announced recently by the NFCA.
Strong was named a first team outfielder on the team, one of three outfielders honored on the first team. She was the lone IWC player on the team and was one of ten Midwest Collegiate Conference players on the 32-player squad which consisted of first and second teams.
Strong ranked near the top of MCC in most batting categories this year. In her first year after transferring in from Muscatine Community College, the right fielder hit .380 with 68 hits, 46 runs scored, 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 41 runs batted in and also stole nine bases this year. Strong tied for the league lead in runs scored, was second in hits and total bases (133), tied for second in doubles and triples (four), was third in home runs and tied for fifth in RBIs. She also led the Tigers in stolen bases.
