The historic Harlan-Lincoln House on the Iowa Wesleyan College campus will be open on Wednesday, September 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for tours. Visitors to the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion and area residents are invited to stop in and tour the spacious rooms and view artifacts that belonged to the Harlan and Lincoln families.
U.S. Senator James Harlan built the home in 1876 and deeded the property to his daughter, Mary, and her husband, Robert Todd Lincoln, in 1895. The Robert Todd Lincolns made improvements to the house, spent extended periods of time here, and entertained in the home.
Mary Harlan Lincoln gave the home to Iowa Wesleyan College in 1907. It has served as a museum since 1959. The home was placed on the National Historic Register in 1973.
There is no charge for the tours. Free will donations are accepted.
