FULTON, MO. – William Woods (Mo.) University’s Greg Baker scored with less than two minutes in the match and Iowa Wesleyan College suffered a tough 1-0 loss Wednesday night in a non-conference match at Firley Field.
Baker cleaned up a rebound in front of the Tigers’ goal and scored with 1:50 left in the match as the Owls stayed undefeated on the season at 3-0-1. IWC dropped its third straight match and fell to 1-3 on the season.
The Tigers were shut out for the third straight game and lost in the same manner they won their season opener, when Wesleyan scored in the final two minutes for a 1-0 win over Concordia (Neb.) University. This time William Woods generated more offense, posting an 18-4 advantage in shots and an 8-0 margin in shots on goal.
Troy Osborne (Jr.-Sydney, Australia) made seven saves in the loss for IWC. The Tigers took three of their four shots in the second half and had four different players take one shot each.
Wesleyan will face another non-conference opponent on Saturday when it takes on Illinois College at 3 p.m. at home at East Lake Park. The game will be the second half of a women’s-men’s doubleheader and will follow the women’s match between the two schools at 1 p.m.
