William Woods shuts out Tiger women

FULTON, MO. – William Woods (Mo.) University scored three times in the first half and then added three more scores late in the second half to defeat the Iowa Wesleyan College women’s soccer team 6-0 Wednesday night at WWU’s Firley Field.

The Owls out-shot the Tigers 23-1 and dominated play throughout to move to 3-1 this season. IWC dropped to 1-4 on the year.

William Woods opened the scoring when Amy Faus scored unassisted just 1:03 into the match, and then added goals by Kelsey Sanders and Melissa Roewe in the 14th and 20th minutes, respectively, for a 3-0 halftime lead. The Owls then added three goals in the final 14 minutes of the match, including a final tally with 19 seconds left in the game. Kristen Pelley scored twice and Jessica Varner added a goal to go with three assists on the evening.

Cara Arnold (Jr.-Stillman Valley, Ill.) made five saves in goal for the Tigers. Serina Reyna (Jr.-Selma, Calif.) took the lone shot for IWC, which came into the game fresh off its first win of the season on Sunday against Mountain State (W.Va.) University.

Wesleyan will be back in action with two matches at home this weekend. The Tigers will take on Wayne State (Neb.) College on Saturday at 10 a.m. at East Lake Park. IWC will then face Illinois College at 1 p.m. on Sunday in another home non-conference match.
