IWC cross country runners compete at Grinnell Les Duke Invite

GRINNELL – Several members of the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at Saturday’s Les Duke Invitational, hosted by Grinnell College at the Oakland Acres Golf Course.

Three members of the IWC women’s team competed, led by Breanna Derynck (Fr.-Clarence, Iowa), who ran the six-kilometer course in 29 minutes, 22 seconds, to finish 148th of 187 runners. Kellie Wolfe (Sr.-West Point, Iowa) finished in 34:44, while Rebecca Wilson (So.-Algonquin, Ill.) finished in 35:57.

Oscar Quintanilla (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn.) competed for the Wesleyan men and finished the 8K course in 38:21. He was the only Tiger men’s runner to compete.

Truman State (Mo.) University won the women’s title, edging St. Olaf (Minn.) College and Wartburg College. Simone Childs-Walker of Carleton (Minn.) College won the individual title with a time of 22:23. The men’s title was won by Grinnell, while Ben Sathre of St. Thomas (Minn.) University won the men’s race with a time of 25:37.

IWC will be off next weekend and will next compete in the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational on Sept. 24. The event will take place in Rock Island, Ill., and is hosted by Augustana (Ill.) College.
