CANTON, MO. – Levor Henry (Sr.-St. Johns, Antigua) scored for the second straight match but Iowa Wesleyan College wasn’t able to come all the way back from a two-goal deficit and lost 2-1 to Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College Wednesday afternoon.
Henry scored in the 89th minute with an assist from Michael Kerr (Fr.-Belfast, Northern Ireland) but the Tigers fell to 2-4 this season while playing their fourth one-goal match of the season. Culver-Stockton improved to 3-1-1.
The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, but the Wildcats took the lead just 1:23 after halftime as Junior Prevalus scored against Tiger goalkeeper Troy Osborne (Jr.-Sydney, Australia). Culver-Stockton then added what would prove to be an important insurance run in the 86th minute when Brian Davidson scored with just 4:04 remaining.
Henry got the Tigers on the board with 1:11 to play, scoring his second goal of the season to cut the deficit in half. IWC was unable to pressure the opposing goal again in the final minute, though, and did not get off one final shot.
CSC held a slim 12-11 advantage in shots, while the Tigers had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Wesleyan also owned a 7-3 lead in shots in the second half. Osborne made one save, while Wildcats goalkeeper Chris Efthim made four saves.
Iowa Wesleyan opens Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Saturday when it faces St. Ambrose University in Davenport. The Tigers and Fighting Bees will square off at 3 p.m., immediately following the match between the two schools’ women’s teams.
