PEOSTA, IOWA – Iowa Wesleyan College improved eight strokes on its second day of play and moved up one spot in the standings to finish eighth at the Clarke University Fall Invitational held at Thunder Hills Country Club.
The Tigers finished with a team score of 666 strokes over the two-day event which ended Monday, shooting a collective score of 329 on Monday after a score of 337 on Sunday. IWC finished eighth of 11 teams competing in its second event of the fall season.
Wesleyan was led by Ryan Grun (So.-Kansas City, Mo.), who shot rounds of 79 and 78 to finish 16th individually. Emery McGraw (Sr.-Loveland, Colo.) was next, finishing 30th with a score of 167 (85-82). Zach Hale (So.-Indianola, Iowa) tied for 40th with rounds of 82 and 88, Kyle Emerson (Jr.-Mount Pleasant, Iowa) tied for 47th with scores of 91 and 81, and Clint Phelps (So.-Quincy, Ill.) finished 60th with twin rounds of 99.
Mount Mercy University won the team title with a team score of 615, edging Central College by two strokes. Joe Liebfried of Loras College won medalist honors with matching rounds of three-over par 74.
IWC next will compete in the University of Dubuque Bishop’s Buffet Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Galena, Ill. Wesleyan will then host its annual Fun City Classic on Sept. 27-28 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.
