A unique free performance will bring music, dance, photography and video to the stage of the Iowa Wesleyan College Chapel Auditorium this Friday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m.
Interdisciplinary Chronicles will feature concert pianist Eugenio Zapata and Dancers. Zapata will perform music by Schubert, Liszt, Mozart, Brahms and other composers. The dancers are from The Dance Studio in Le Mars, Iowa.
Eugenio Zapata is a native of Colombia, South America. He earned a bachelor of music in piano performance at the Andes University in Bogota. After performing and teaching for several years he traveled to the US where he completed a master degree in Piano Pedagogy and Performance at the Pennsylvania State University. He completed doctoral studies at Texas Tech where he was able to integrate his training in Music, Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts into the interdisciplinary fine arts program.
His multimedia performances explore themes such as gender, race, religion, culture, and war. These themes are integrated into shows he designs that include dance, theatre, history, video, acting, photography, poetry, and animation along with the music performed.
Zapata is now an independent performing artist and has a private piano studio in Yankton, South Dakota. He has published several articles on piano pedagogy and recorded several CDs. His lectures and performances have taken him throughout the United States, Europe, and South America.
The program is open to the public at no charge. It is funded by the Haselmayer Endowment for the Arts.
