McGraw receives MCC men’s golf weekly honors

MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College senior Emery McGraw (Loveland, Colo.) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

McGraw received the award primarily on the basis of his strong first round at the Viterbo (Wis.) University Ronnie Eastman Invitational on Sunday. He shot a round of one-over par 73, tying for fourth individually on the first day of the tourney.

Unfortunately, McGraw withdrew from the tourney on Tuesday and was unable to finish. As a team the Tigers stayed in the same 10th place spot they were in after the first day and finished 10th of 13 teams.

McGraw also played in the IWC Fun City Classic last week, leading the Tigers and finishing 29th individually and helping IWC finish eighth of 10 teams competing. He shot rounds of 86 and 79 at Wesleyan’s home event at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington.

For the season McGraw is averaging 81.2 strokes per round, leading the Tigers individually in stroke average.

The Tigers will wrap up their fall schedule with the William Penn University Statesmen Fall Classic Oct. 12-13 at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside.
