MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College seniors B.J. Wagy (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Kendra Zimmerman (Green Bay, Wis.) have been named to the Midwest Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention volleyball teams, as announced Monday by the conference.
Both received conference honors for the third time of their careers at IWC. The two were among 28 players honored by the league on its first team and honorable mention all-conference squads.
Wagy was named honorable mention all-conference for the third time, capping a career in which she was a four-year starter for the Tigers. This year the 6-0 middle hitter was Wesleyan’s top all-around player, finishing among the team leaders in a number of categories. Wagy led the team with 49 service aces and 107 blocks, was second with 298 kills, and finished fourth on the team with 250 digs. She ranked among the conference leaders in both aces and blocks per game, finishing second in services aces per game (0.39) and sixth in blocks per game (0.86).
For her career Wagy finished as the IWC school record holder in career solo blocks with 241. She also is second all-time in total blocks with 439 total blocks and ranks fifth in school history with exactly 1,000 kills. Wagy also was named honorable mention all-conference after the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Zimmerman received conference honors for the third straight year on the heels of honorable mention in 2008 and being named first team all-conference last year. The Tigers’ setter finished the season with 1,016 assists (8.13 assists per game), leading IWC and also ranking fourth in the MCC in both categories. Zimmerman also added 300 digs to rank third on the team and added 96 kills and 32 blocks, both fifth on the team.
A transfer to Wesleyan from St. Norbert (Wis.) College before her sophomore year, Zimmerman finishes her career third in school history in assists with 2,888. She also added 898 career digs, 269 kills, 109 blocks and 82 service aces.
The awards come after a season in which the Tigers finished 10-25 overall and seventh in the conference standings under first-year Head Coach Jill Blake. Wagy and Zimmerman were two of five seniors completing their careers at IWC.
