Iowa Wesleyan College and Muscatine Community College will celebrate a 25 year academic partnership on Tuesday, April 10, with a reception in the MCC Student Center Lounge. The open house will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. All alumni, students, current and former faculty members are invited. Iowa Wesleyan College President Dr. Jay Simmons and Muscatine Community College President MCC Acting President Bob Allbee will present brief remarks at 6:00 p.m.
Dr. Don Doucette, Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, Gail Spies, Dean of the College at MCC, and representatives from the Iowa Wesleyan Extended Learning and Alumni Offices will also be in attendance.
Iowa Wesleyan College initiated specific baccalaureate-completion programs in cooperation with MCC in the fall of 1987, according to Iowa Wesleyan College Associate Vice President of Extended Learning David File. These agreements allowed nontraditional MCC students the opportunity to transfer to Iowa Wesleyan College and complete bachelor’s degrees in elementary education, business, accounting, nursing and human services without leaving the Muscatine area. These programs were the result of a comprehensive set of cooperative agreements including use of classrooms and instructional support materials, coordinated course scheduling (including shared courses on occasion), transfer course equivalencies and articulation and, more recently, reciprocal course credit agreements.
“Our long and cooperative relationship with Muscatine Community College remains a model of cooperation between public and private institutions,” said File. “Our partnership has provided a mutual benefit for residents of greater southeastern and eastern Iowa in that these programs have achieved successful outcomes for Muscatine Community College, Iowa Wesleyan College and, most importantly, the students whom we have served.”
