Iowa Rep. David Heaton to present IWC Commencement address

Iowa Rep. David Heaton will present the address at this year's Iowa Wesleyan College Commencement. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. on the campus lawn.

Heaton is a graduate of Iowa Wesleyan. He has represented House District 91 since 1994.  He chairs the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Human Resources and Judiciary Committees.

Heaton is a former public school teacher. He served in the United States Army Reserve 872nd Ordinance Company.

He has served on numerous civic and professional organizations, including Kiwanis International, Henry County Pork Producers, Henry County Farm Bureau and the Iowa Licensed Beverage Association. He is past President of the Iowa Restaurant Association, former board member of the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, and former Co-Chair of the Henry County Republican Party.

In 1997, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Iowa Wesleyan College.  

Heaton and his wife, Carmen, have two grown children, Mary, and David Jr., and one granddaughter, Sophie.
