A public forum featuring candidates for state and Henry County contested races in the November election will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Iowa Wesleyan College campus.
Co-sponsored by IWC and the Mt. Pleasant News, the event will be held in the Social Hall in the Howe Student Activity Center. Candidates for state Senate, Henry County Supervisor and Henry County Sheriff all have confirmed attendance.
Questions prepared by the Mt. Pleasant News staff first will be posed to candidates. Written questions also will be accepted from members of the audience, but will be limited to issues or topics relevant to the office the candidates are seeking.
First to be featured will be state Senate candidates Michael D. Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant, independent; Larry Kruse, Donnellson Republican; and Phil Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, Democrat. Each candidate can provide introductory remarks, and each will be allowed equal time to respond to questions.
The same format will be used for the Henry County Supervisor candidates, who will be featured next after a short break. They are Kurt Garretson, rural Salem Democrat; Gary See, Mt. Pleasant, incumbent Republican; and Greg Moeller, Mt. Pleasant, first-time Republican candidate.
Wrapping up the event will be presentations by Henry County Sheriff candidates Rich McNamee, Mt. Pleasant independent, and Allen Wittmer, incumbent Republican.
The forum is open to the public.
