Mt. Pleasant Chorale Spring Underway

The Mt. Pleasant Chorale spring season is underway. The group will be rehearsing for the Iowa premier of a new oratorio, to be performed with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Jamie Spillane, Director of Choral Activities at Iowa Wesleyan College.

The Chorale will be joining four other choirs from Burlington, Ottumwa, and Mt. Pleasant in performing To Be Certain of the Dawn "A Holocaust Remembrance Oratorio" by Stephen Paulus and Michael Dennis Browne. These performances will be on Saturday, February 14, in Burlington and Sunday, February 15, in Ottumwa.  Composer Stephen Paulus and Librettist Michael Dennis Browne will be in Iowa for the dress rehearsal and the performances to talk about the creation of the oratorio and to coach the combined ensembles.

The Mt. Pleasant Chorale rehearses each Monday evening from 7:00-9:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. According to Spillane, the group welcomes singers who can read music and would like to participate in this groundbreaking musical event.
