IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with recommendations of the American College Health Association, all students born after 1956, entering Iowa Wesleyan College, must present a written confirmation from their family physician that the student has the immunizations and tests listed below. STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT THIS INFORMATION BEFORE THEY ARE PERMITTED TO CHECK INTO CAMPUS HOUSING.
1. Proof and date of having had measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), or
2. Documentation of immunization for MMR after 1980, or
3. Written recommendation from a physician that the MMR immunization not be administered at this time.
4. Mantoux TB skin test within a year prior to arrival on campus and verification of follow-up treatment, if necessary.
Confirmation of received MMR and TB skin test should be submitted to the Office of Student Life.
Meningitis Vaccine
While it is not an IWC requirement, many students choose to be vaccinated for the prevention of meningitis. Meningococcal disease is a serious illness, caused by bacteria. Meningitis is an infection of fluid surrounding the brain and the spinal cord. Meningococcal disease also causes blood infections. It is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis in children 2 through 18 years old in the United States. College freshmen who live in residence halls have an increased risk of getting meningococcal disease. This is why preventing the disease through use of meningococcal vaccine is important for people at highest risk.
