Phone Service

PHONE SERVICE, LONG DISTANCE, VOICE MAIL

IWC’s Information Technology Services (ITS) provides your room phone service.  One phone line and one voicemail service is provided in each room. You or your roommate will need to provide a touch-tone

telephone.

You may plug in and use your telephone for on-campus calls as soon as you check in (connect your telephone to the outlet marked with the orange tag – other outlets are for personal computers).

Your phone service includes unlimited campus and local calls.

Long Distance

No installation fees or deposits are associated with your ITS phone services, however, students wishing to use their room phone for making long-distance calls must register with ITS. Registration can be completed upon check-in.

Each student who registers to make long-distance calls from his/her room phone will be issued a PIN number which is entered by the student each time a long-distance call is made. Students may use this PIN to make calls from any campus phone.

Do not share your PIN with anyone! By using your PIN, you agree to pay for all calls placed with your PIN whether or not you made them. Therefore, you should treat your PIN like a credit card and protect it. If you lose or forget your PIN, or suspect that your PIN has been stolen, contact ITS immediately and your PIN will be disabled and new one assigned.

IWC out-sources student long distance services through a company called Campus Communications. Campus Communications directly bills students for long-distance charges. Long-distance charges are billed to individuals, not rooms, eliminating the need for roommates to divide up charges.

Other long-distance carriers' calling cards may be used. Students may want to consider doing so as the calling card rate is typically less than the ITS long-distance rate.

Telephone numbers are permanently assigned to a specific room and may not be moved from one room or hall to another.

To call campus extensions from a campus phone, only the last four digitsof the number need to be dialed.

It is necessary to first dial 9 before making calls from a campus phone to an off-campus number.

Voice Mail

You do not need to bring an answering machine to school if you live in McKibbin or S-T because a voice mail box is provided for you to share with your roommate.  You or your roommatedoes need to bring your own touch tone phone, even if you plan to use a personal cell phone for most of your telephone needs.   The voice mail system requires a phone to be plugged in and is frequently used by instructors and offices on campus in providing you with time sensitive or other important information.  Nemitz Suites has a phone in the common area, but is not equipped with voice mail, so suite residents may want to add an answering machine to their phone.

TELEPHONES IN STUDENT ROOMS & AROUND CAMPUS

Each residence hall room in S-T and McKibbin are equipped to provide telephone access and voicemail service with residents furnishing their own telephones. Students are required to set-up their room phone service and check it regularly for messages.  Nemitz Suites does not have voicemail service.

From any campus phone, other campus phones can be accesses by dialing just the last four digits.

Campus office phones and Nemitz Suites all begin with 319-385-XXXX
