Students occasionally inquire if the college covers theft of property from a student room or elsewhere on campus, or damage to a personal vehicle. Iowa Wesleyan College values the kind of open and welcoming community maintained on the campus. Like many other institutions of higher education, we are not able to assume responsibility for individual student property. Students should recognize that as in the world outside the campus, there are certain risks inherent in studying, working, and living here. In many cases, student property, including vehicles, is covered by existing family homeowners and vehicle policies. Students are encouraged to discuss with family and insurance agents appropriate coverage. It may be worthwhile to consider “rider” policies or deductible adjustments while in school.
