Iowa Wesleyan College

Campus Ministry

College is a time in student's lives when they learn new ideas, have the opportunity to explore different avenues, and can discover various characteristics about themselves and the world. It is the desire of the office of Campus Ministries at Iowa Wesleyan College to help students explore the world in light of God's plans and purposes for them as they learn, grow and make a difference in the world.

Iowa Wesleyan College is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In accordance with its Wesleyan Heritage,Iowa Wesleyan College seeks to promote spiritual development as well as intellectual growth in all of our students. It is the desire of the College that its students participate in the worship, study and fellowship of the religious community of their choice in the area. The Campus Minister is a shared position with the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant working part-time at both locations.  The Campus Minister is a pastor and chaplain for the students, staff and faculty, willing to assist in many different ways to help the students grow in their faith. The Campus Minister is also one of the many persons on and off campus who are available for counseling. The College also attempts to orient students to the religious fellowships of their choice and to enlist area clergy to assist in providing pastoral care to the students. If there is an absence of a church of one's religious preference, the College will endeavor to aid students in attending religious functions in an adjacent community.

There are a variety of Religious Life opportunities to get involved in at Iowa Wesleyan College:

For those who may be interested in serving in ministry following college, ordained or laity, full-time or volunteer, opportunities abound to be involved in ministry in churches in the area while here at Iowa Wesleyan College.

There are numerous scholarships and loans for students who are members of the United Methodist Church through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry and the Iowa UM Foundation.

Numerous times throughout the year, various religious leaders, groups and programs are brought to the campus. Many of them are during the weekly Forum program. One of the highlights of the year is the annual Rev.  W. Clifford and Maxine Manning Lecture series. The Manning Lecture series helps to bring nationally renowned speakers in religion to the Iowa Wesleyan College campus each spring.

Through the Service-Learning and Civic Engagement program and general volunteer opportunities, as well as the Field Education component for Religion majors, students have the opportunity to be in leadership roles and be involved indifferent facets of ministry, including youth work, Christian education, worship and music in area churches.

We pray that God will bless you on your journey of faith,
