Move Toward a Decision- Practice the 4 E’s of Career Success!

Examine-  Your interests, values and skills.  Get to know yourself.  Speak with a Career Counselor.  Take interest inventories and personality tests. Consider what subjects you like in school and what activities make you happy- money, helping others, being creative?

What Iowa Wesleyan College provides its students:

--Personality and skills assessments to determine appropriate
major

--Values exercises through Holland’s Self-Directed Search

--Individualized career counseling to guide student through
personal assessment of self and assist with decision of
appropriate major

Explore-  Research careers that match your interests, values and skills.  Ask questions about job requirements, geography and location, work hours and salary information.  Conduct informational interviews with people in different fields, talk to professors, and search the internet for job descriptions.  Investigate opportunities in different majors.

What Iowa Wesleyan College provides its students:

--Up-to-date resources to access career information such as
nature of work, salary, educational requirements and projected
employment

--Individualized career counseling to link major in college to
career following graduation

Experience-  Seek part-time work and obtain internships in fields you are considering. Do volunteer work in the community.  Participate in extracurricular activities. Try things out for yourself, and recognize that negative experiences can be just as valuable as bad ones if you learn something from them.
