Davis, Madison lead track squads at Titan Open

BLOOMINGTON, ILL. – Andrew Davis (Fr.-Macedonia, Ohio) and Wendy Madison (Sr.-Yucca Valley, Calif.) had top performances in the jumping events for the Iowa Wesleyan College track and field teams at the Titan Open, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.

Davis and Madison accounted for all of the Tigers’ points in the highly competitive meet, which featured nearly 20 competing schools. Davis scored five points for the IWC men while Madison had the lone two points for the Wesleyan women.

Davis placed in the top five in a pair of events, including a fourth-place finish in the long jump, where his mark of 21-3 ¼ (6.48 meters) is the third-best performance in the event at an indoor meet in school history. He also topped out at 6-2 (1.88 m) in the high jump to tie for fifth. Davis also added a third top-10 finish in the triple jump with a best of 40-4 (12.29 m).

Madison competed in just one event, placing fifth in the long jump with a top mark of 16-1 ½ (4.91 m). She did not participate in the triple jump, an event she is typically very strong in.

Kelvin Brunson (So.-Dooly County, Ga.) added another highlight for Wesleyan, posting a qualifying time in the 55 meters of 6.62 seconds, fourth-best in qualifying and the third-best time in school history. Brunson wasn’t quite able to back that time up in the finals, finishing 10th with a time of 6.67.

Other top performances for IWC came from Corrie Wagner (Sr.-Iowa City, Iowa) on the women’s side and Jason Amy (Jr.-Lake Elsinore, Calif.) for the men’s team. Wagner finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 38-4 ½ (11.69 m), while Amy was 12th in the 400 dash with a time of 53.85.

The Tigers’ next meet takes them to Mount Vernon next weekend for the Hilltop Invitational, hosted by Cornell College. Events next Saturday start at 10 a.m.
