IWC men take third at Knox Invitational

      GALESBURG, ILL. – Kelvin Brunson (So.-Dooly County, Ga.) won the 55-meter dash and again set a personal record in the event, helping the Iowa Wesleyan College men’s track team to a solid finish at the Knox Invitational on Saturday.

        The Tigers finished with 39 points in the meet to place third of nine teams competing. IWC also was first among NAIA and NCAA Division III schools competing, finishing only behind NCAA Division I Western Illinois University and NCAA Division II Truman State (Mo.) University.

        Brunson ran a qualifying time of 6.59 seconds in the dash, setting his personal best time for the second week in a row and improving on the third-best ever mark in IWC history. He backed it up with a 6.63 in the finals, to win by .01 over his closest competition.

        Andrew Davis (Fr.-Macedonia, Ohio) also posted three top four finishes for the Tigers to earn 16 points for the team. Davis placed second in the long jump, tying his best mark of the season with a jump of 6.48m (21-3 ¼). He also was fourth in the triple jump with a season best mark of 12.34m (40-5 ½) and also added a fourth in the high jump (1.72m).

        Wesleyan also got scoring finishes from Lonzell Maddock (Sr.-Seattle, Wash.) in the 55 hurdles and Jason Amy (Jr.-Lake Elsinore, Calif.) in the 200. Maddock was fourth in the hurdles, posting a time of 8.67 in the preliminaries before clocking an 8.78 in the finals. Amy was sixth in the 200 with a time of 23.90.

        The Tiger women’s team sent four competitors to the meet. Serina Reyna (Fr.-Selma, Calif.) posted the best finishes for IWC, just missing the 55 hurdles finals with a time of 10.42 in qualifying. She was also 12th in the 200m (30.13) and 13th in the 55 dash (8.31).

        Wesleyan will conclude its indoor season this Saturday at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor Championships. The meet will take place at the Westwood Sports and Expo Center in Sterling, Ill., with events starting at 10 a.m.
