YORK, NEB. – Iowa Wesleyan College induced York (Neb.) College into 25 turnovers and took control in the second half for a 73-56 win Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers got 11 points from both Ali DeVries (Jr.-Bellevue, Iowa) and Megan Couch (Jr.-Mooresville, Ind.) in completing a two-day sweep against Nebraska schools. IWC defeated the College of St. Mary (Neb.) 70-45 on Friday night in Omaha.
Wesleyan (now 7-5 overall) held the Panthers to 33.3% shooting (17-for-51) for the game but had to survive 10 three-pointers by the hosts. York (0-14 overall) hit 10 of 24 three-point tries and also out-rebounded the Tigers 39-38 to stay close most of the way.
IWC shot 41.5%, making 27 of 65 shots, and had 16 steals, including seven by DeVries and five by Rachel Mitchell (Sr.-Des Moines, Iowa). The Tigers also hit nine three-pointers of their own, including making four of six in the second half.
Anna Jones (Fr.-Cornell, Ill.) led IWC with eight rebounds and added nine points. DeVries also had a team-high four assists. Kristin Wiedemann led York with 19 points and added nine rebounds and six blocked shots.
The Tigers will take a break for final exams and Christmas and resume their schedule Dec. 29 at the Sioux City Holiday Classic. IWC will open the two-day tourney against Morningside College, the top ranked team in NAIA Division II.
