Humpal rings up MCC Player of the Week award

      DES MOINES – Iowa Wesleyan College’s Brett Humpal (Sr.-Decorah, Iowa) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced today by MCC Sports Information Director Molly Brown.

        In three games last week Humpal averaged 17 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. He nearly reached a triple-double in a win against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College last Tuesday with 11 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. This past weekend he was named to the Kiwanis Classic All-Tournament Team. Humpal had 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and six steals in a loss on Friday to Briar Cliff University, then added 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists on Saturday in a loss to nationally ranked Bethel (Ind.) College.

        For the season Humpal is averaging 18.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game over IWC’s first eight games, in which the Tigers have a 4-4 record. The Player of the Week award is the seventh of his career at IWC. He also is moving up the career lists at Iowa Wesleyan, now ranking 16th all-time at the school in scoring (1,293 points), eighth all-time in rebounds (583) and 14th in assists (264).

        IWC returns to the court Saturday to face Hannibal-LaGrange on the road in the team’s second meeting of the season. Wesleyan won the first game 76-71 at Ruble Arena on Nov. 6. Game time in Hannibal will be 4 p.m.
