DES MOINES – For the second time this season Iowa Wesleyan College senior Brett Humpal (Decorah, Iowa) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Humpal helped lead the Tigers to a 2-0 record last week, including a win on the road at MCC rival William Penn University, which was ranked 17th in NAIA Division II at the time of the game. For the week Humpal averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, four assists and 2.5 steals in the Tigers’ conference wins over the Statesmen and Clarke College.
Humpal led the Tigers with 28 points on 10-for-16 shooting and added three steals in a 91-61 win over Clarke on Saturday. He also had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the 97-81 win at Penn on Wednesday night. Humpal has now been named MCC Player of the Week eight times in his career.
The senior swingman is currently leading the MCC in scoring at 19.2 points per game and is second in the league in rebounding (8.6 rebounds per game) and assists (4.4 assists per game). Last week he also moved into 14th on the all-time school scoring list and currently has 1,375 career points. He also has 609 career rebounds, good for sixth all-time, and his 276 assists places him 13th all-time at Wesleyan.
IWC (currently 6-6 overall) will be idle for the rest of December save for one game Dec. 20 at home against Doane (Neb.) College. The team’s final game of 2008 will take place next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ruble Arena.
