DES MOINES –Iowa Wesleyan College senior Brett Humpal (Decorah, Iowa) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season, as announced Tuesday by conference sports information director Molly Brown.
Humpal averaged a double-double last week as the Tigers split a pair of games, losing to Doane (Neb.) College in the final seconds on New Year’s Eve before defeating Ashford University 76-59 on Saturday in MCC play. In the two games Humpal averaged 18.5 points, 10 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 6.5 steals while shooting 50% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line.

He then had 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals on Saturday against Ashford. In Saturday’s game he also went over the 1,400-point mark for his career and now has 1,412 points in his career, 11th all-time at IWC.
Humpal has now received MCC Player of the Week honors nine times in his career, including three times each year the past three years. The senior is currently leading the MCC in scoring at 19.1 points per game and is second in the league in rebounding (8.8 per game), assists (4.4 per game) and steals (2.8 per game). Along with passing both John Keitges (1996-2000) and Nick Rousonelos (1981-85) on the Tigers’ all-time scoring list last week, he also moved past Mike Horton (1970-74) for fifth place on the all-time rebounds list last week and now has 629 boards for his career.
IWC is 7-7 overall and undefeated at 3-0 in the MCC. The Tigers will face St. Ambrose University tomorrow evening in Davenport at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers then will be home to face Mount Mercy College Saturday at 3 p.m. in a battle between the only two teams currently without a loss in conference play.
