IWC’s Droz named MCC Softball Player of the Week

DES MOINES – Iowa Wesleyan College softball player Hilarie Droz (Sr.-Ottumwa, Iowa) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week, as announced today by the conference.

Droz received the conference award after batting .615 (8-for-13) over four games last week for the Tigers. She had hits in all four games and two or more hits in three of the four games as IWC went 2-2 for the week.

The senior third baseman’s biggest game came Thursday in the second game of a doubleheader against Knox (Ill.) College. Droz went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a grand slam home run in the Tigers’ 9-1 win that completed a sweep of the Prairie Fire. She also had two hits in the opener against Knox and added three hits over two games the day before against St. Ambrose University.

After a slow start to the season, Droz has caught fire in the last 11 games, batting 17-for-35 (.486) with two home runs, 11 runs batted in and 10 runs scored. For the season the senior is batting .386 with 22 hits, two home runs and 14 RBIs, leading the team in all four categories. She also is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 12 and is second on the team with a .544 slugging percentage. The Player of the Week award is the second in the career for Droz, who also won the award once last season.

The Tigers have an 8-12 overall record and are 4-2 in the MCC heading into a doubleheader tonight at first place William Penn University. Game time in Oskaloosa is 6 p.m.
