FORT DODGE – Ashlee Winner (Sr.-Rushville, Ill.) shot the two lowest rounds of the season by an Iowa Wesleyan College women’s golfer as her team finished third of four squads at the GVC Viking Women’s Golf Classic at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
Winner followed up a round of 84 on the first day with an 88 on Monday, finishing tied for sixth individually and leading the Tigers to a team score of 747. The team’s first day total of 371 as well as its 36-hole team score were both team bests this season.
Melissa Bruegge (Sr.-Ainsworth, Iowa) gave the Tigers a second player in the top 10, tying for ninth with a two-day score of 180. Others competing for IWC were Gabby Combs (So.-Macomb, Ill.) with a 188, Alyssa McClain (Fr.-Belleville, Ill.) with a score of 207 and Stevie Schrier (Fr.-Columbus Junction, Iowa) with a 244.
Des Moines Area Community College won the women’s tourney with a two-day score of 694. Sam Pingel of DMACC was medalist with a score of 158 over Sunday and Monday.
The Tiger men were also in action at Fort Dodge C.C., and the Tigers slipped from a tie from second after the first day into a fourth place finish among 12 teams competing. IWC finished with a score of 607 on Monday to fall behind Midwest Collegiate Conference rivals Grand View (591), Waldorf (599) and Mount Mercy (605).
Adam Lindsay (Sr.-Aberdeenshire, Scotland) had another solid showing, finishing with an even- par 71 on Monday to take third individually with a two-day total of 144 and post his fifth top 10 finish of the fall.
Emery McGraw (So.-Loveland, Colo.) and Adam Saych (So.-London, England) both finished in the top 20, with McGraw posting a 151 for 17th and Saych right behind with a steady 152 that included a pair of rounds of 76. Adam Moyers (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa) and Mark Cleary (Fr.-London, England) finished the team scoring with scores of 160 and 162 respectively.
Nic Juskewycz (Fr.-Fairfield, Iowa) played for IWC as an individual and finished with a 74 on Monday to cap the tourney with a score of 156. Jeff Zieber (So.-Cameron, Mo.) also played as an individual and finished with a score of 161.
The Tiger men return to the course for the Viterbo University Ronnie Eastman Invitational in La Crosse, Wis., a two-day tourney at the La Crosse Country Club which begins Sunday. The IWC women have one final tournament left for the fall, the MCC championships Oct. 12-13 at Thunder Hills Golf Course in Dubuque.
