Cleary receives Midwest Collegiate Conference honors

DES MOINES – Iowa Wesleyan College freshman Mark Cleary (Fr.-London, England) was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week for last week, as announced yesterday by conference sports information director Molly Brown.

Cleary finished second individually at last week’s IWC Fun City Classic at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, his best performance of the year with the Tigers. He opened with a 75 in the first round, and then tied a school record with a six-under par 66 in the second round.

Cleary is the first IWC golfer to receive conference honors this season. The Tigers finished third in their own tourney, but Cleary’s score did not count towards the team score as he played in the event as an individual.

The Tiger men return to play this weekend at the Viterbo University Ronnie Eastman Invitational in La Crosse, Wis., a two-day tourney at the La Crosse Country Club which begins Sunday.
