IOWA CITY – Iowa Wesleyan College is in fourth place after the second round of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Championships, which were held the past two days at the Finkbine Golf Course.
The Tigers finished with a two-day score of 607, well behind leaders St. Ambrose University (580) and Grand View College (588) and just behind third-place Viterbo University (603). However, the Tigers will have chances to make up ground on the leaders under the new format for the conference championship, which now consists of four rounds, two in the fall and two more in the spring.
Scores were higher on the second day of the tourney, and that included for IWC. The Tigers shot a 309 on Tuesday after opening with a 298 on Monday that left the team in a three-way tie for third place. All teams except Grand View shot higher on Tuesday, and the result was the Vikings moving up in the standings as well as increased separation in the field between teams.
Adam Lindsay (Sr.-Aberdeenshire, Scotland) continued the consistent play that he has shown all season, shooting a pair of rounds of 73 to sit in sixth place individually, seven shots behind Adam White of St. Ambrose. Adam Saych (So.-London, England) couldn’t quite follow up his opening round score of one-under par 71, but his 79 on Tuesday still left him 11th individually at the midway point.
Adam Moyers (Jr.-Burlington, Iowa) tied for 18th individually with a two-day score of 154. Emery McGraw (So.-Loveland, Colo.) and Jeff Zieber (So.-Cameron, Mo.) finished with totals of 158 and 161, respectively.
The final two rounds of the four-round Championships will be hosted by William Penn University at Oskaloosa Golf Course in April. Iowa Wesleyan has one more tourney remaining in the fall, as the Tigers were recently invited to the NAIA Preview Invitational Oct. 24-25 at The TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, the home course of the NAIA national championships in the spring.
