MUSCATINE – St. Ambrose University’s Kelly Jansen shot a three-under par 69 to help her team win the Iowa Wesleyan College Invitational women’s golf tourney Friday at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course.
St. Ambrose finished with a team score of 319 strokes to easily out-distance the rest of the nine-team field. The University of St. Francis (Ill.) finished second (336) followed by Simpson College (344), Ashford University (348) and Mount Mercy College (362). Jansen took medalist honors, finishing nine strokes ahead of second-place Vicky McGowan of St. Francis.
Iowa Wesleyan posted its best finish of the season, placing sixth with a team score of 378, also the team’s lowest score of the season. Four of five Tiger golfers posted their lowest rounds of the season led by Melissa Bruegge (Sr.-Ainsworth, Iowa), who shot a round of 90 that tied for 17th individually and is the best round by a Tiger golfer over the team’s first three meets.
Gabby Combs (So.-Macomb, Ill.) finished alone in 23rd place with a round of 93 while Ashlee Winner (Sr.-Rushville, Ill.) finished two spots behind with a 95. Alyssa McClain (Fr.-Belleville, Ill.) carded a 99 and Stevie Schrier (Fr.-Columbus Junction, Iowa) rounded out IWC’s scoring with a 100.
The Tigers are back in action again tomorrow at the St. Ambrose University Invitational. Round one of the two-day tourney starts Saturday morning at Glynns Creek Golf Course in Eldridge, with Sunday’s second round scheduled to be played at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport.
