MOUNT PLEASANT – Iowa Wesleyan College senior Ashlee Winner (Rushville, Ill.) was named the Midwest Collegiate Conference’s most recent women’s golf Athlete of the Week, as announced by conference sports information director Molly Brown on Tuesday.
Winner received the award after posting the two best rounds of the season for a Tiger women’s golfer, both at the GVC Viking Fall Classic at the Fort Dodge Country Club. She opened the tourney with a round of 84, and then finished with an 88 on the second day to tie for 6th individually in the invite.
The individual finish was the highest by an IWC golfer this season and helped the Tigers finish third of four teams at the tourney. Teammate Melissa Bruegge (Sr.-Ainsworth, Iowa) added the team’s second individual top 10 finish of the season at the tourney, finishing 10th.
This season Winner is leading the Tigers with a 93.7 stroke average per 18 holes over seven rounds. The senior, who came to IWC on a softball scholarship and pitched for the team two years ago before redshirting last year after shoulder surgery, is in her first season playing on the women’s golf team.
The Tiger women’s golf team concludes its fall season early next week with the MCC Tournament Sunday and Monday in Dubuque. The tourney will be contested at the Thunder Hills Golf Course.
