DUBUQUE – The Iowa Wesleyan College women’s golf team improved its score by 13 strokes on the second day of the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament and finished seventh at the two-day conference tourney at Thunder Hills Golf Course.
The Tigers shot a team score of 386 on Monday, moving up one spot in the standings from the first day and finishing with a total score of 785, two strokes behind host Clarke College for sixth. St. Ambrose University again defended its conference championship, finishing with a score of 664 to place 25 shots ahead of second-place Waldorf College.
Ashlee Winner (Sr.-Rushville, Ill.) led the team on both days of the tourney with matching rounds of 94 to tie for 21st place individually. She finished the fall with the team’s best individual scoring average at 93.8 strokes over nine rounds and also had the team’s best single 18- and 36-hole scores.
Alyssa McClain (Fr.-Belleville, Ill.) also posted a pair of consistent scores with a 98 on Sunday and a 97 Monday to tie for 25th in the individual standings. Melissa Bruegge (Sr.-Ainsworth, Iowa) was next for IWC with a two-day score of 198. She was followed by Stevie Schrier (Fr.-Columbus Junction, Iowa) at 204 and Gabby Combs (So.-Macomb, Ill.) with a 209.
The Tigers are now finished with their fall schedule and will resume their season in the spring.
